Notes & How to Use

Indigo/Blue squares/balls also known as Anil in Spanish have various types of uses for ritual.  It can be used as a floor wash and aura wash to absorb negative vibrations, clarify, purify as well as for protection against the evil eye, attract luck and to raise spiritual vibrations. In my upbringings these types of rituals are performed to dispel negative energy we may pick up from people and places or energies left in our homes or worse, those low energies we cultivate as our own such as hate, negative self talk, envy, etc.

You’d often hear the elders say, “tienes que darte una limpieza”, (You need a cleansing) , or necesitas un despojo (You need to disposes of those energies)! We are magnetic beings and attract things to us so keeping a regular cleansing is key to progress, especially when elevating spiritually.

Originally, Copper Sulphate (Blue stone), was used by African American Hoodoo witch doctors and Spiritualist (Espiritistas) alike.  Copper Sulphate however, is highly toxic and for that reason many began using laundry bluing balls as a substitute.  Another commonly known replacement, in addition to Anil, is laundry bluing agent such as Reckitt’s Blue Laundry square tablets which can also be used as a substitute for ritual purposes.  It is not recommended to use Copper Sulphate and in no way do I encourage you to use Copper Sulphate due to its highly toxic properties.

Anil or Reckitts Crown Blue tablets are much safer & non- toxic alternatives that provides the same purpose and effect, which is to turn water blue for ritual.  In addition, to we will also be talking about camphor which can be used for the same purposes.

Camphor is derived from the Camphor tree and as its scientific name Cinnamomum camphora indicates, it’s a close relative of cinnamon. Camphor is a white crystalline substance and native throughout Asia and can be found throughout the world today. Camphor is very aromatic and has a rather distinct menthol scent.

Camphor throughout history has been used for both culinary and medicinal uses.  In addition to its crystallized form, Camphor can be used in essential oil form too. Camphor is very purifying and clearing used to disinfect, purge and stimulate spiritual vibrations.

Now that we’ve gotten some basic knowledge of Anil/Indigo balls and Camphor, how can you use it for spiritual purposes?

Floor Wash

Indigo balls & Camphor when combined can be used as a potent cleanser for your front door and throughout the home to clear and purify it of lingering negative and low energy fields. It is also very healing and its scent leaves a very refreshing and clean scent.  It can help banish any energy left behind from people who may have previous lived or occupied a space especially if you recently moved into a new home.

How to make a floor wash: Dissolve Indigo ball in a cup of water.  This may take a few minutes to dissolve, so every couple of minutes take the ball and swish it around to release and dissolve its color. Once dissolved, you can add the colored water to a bottle, bowl or anything that would be easy for you to use while you clean. If using a bowl, add a cube of camphor.  If using a bottle, crumble the camphor into the bottle (add a few drops if using essential oil), shake and splash along your front door or around the house as you mop and clean.

Using cascarilla, which is white ritual chalk made of dried white egg shells, you can draw sigils or protective circles.  I usually draw a line over my home’s front door’s threshold, draw a cross behind my door or draw a circle along the corner behind my front door to symbolize a protective circle absorbing and keeping negative energy within the circle.

Dream Recall & Preventing Nightmares

When placed under the bed Camphor and Anil can be used to prevent nightmares and disturbing energy.  If you notice that you or anyone in your home are unable to sleep well, wake up often throughout the night or experience a lot of nightmares, you may want to add a cup of water under the bed with Camphor and Anil. This can be a great way to purify your mind and cleanse your energy field throughout the night, especially if any entities may have attached themselves to you in both the astral dimension and earth realm.

A Camphor cube alone can be used, but adding Indigo Blue Water helps with clearing your subconscious mind that may be influencing nightmares or negative thoughts that feeds into your subconscious.  It helps calm tense, angry and confusing energy.  Once your subconscious is clarified this mixture can help you remember your dreams and use the messages received in your dreams to benefit you in making better choices.

How to make a sleep aide:  In a glass cup add 1 indigo ball and 1 camphor cube.  Before placing it under your bed, make sure to sweep under your bed and clear it of any clutter and dust.  Once you are ready to place under your bed, dedicate and say a prayer to your Guardian Angel.

I share a simple prayer I use below.  You can change the water and repeat the same process weekly or every 2 weeks.

Absorb Energy in Spaces

Placed in a bowl or saucer, both Anil and Camphor can be placed in the corner of any room of your house and front door to absorb negative energy, purify and cleanse any space.  It helps eliminate and banish any negative energies that may have taken residence in your home.  This is especially if there’s a lot of traffic in your house, arguments, people with negative intentions or any type of energy that is not promoting peace and tranquility.  I like to keep a bowl in my home office for clear thinking, prevent distractions and promote creativity and a calm state of being.

Since camphor has a very clean and pure scent, the aroma also absorbs any stagnant odors that may linger in your space.  Very useful to do if you just moved into a home to neutralize and reset the ambiance in that new space of any energies that may have been left behind by prior occupants.

How to Use to Absorb Negative Energy:  In a bowl or cup add an Indigo ball and camphor (you can use camphor alone if you don’t have Indigo balls) and allow the Indigo ball to dissolve.  Place in the corner behind your front door or in any corners of your home.  Corners are important because that is where most low, negative and dark energies like to accumulate. You can change the water and repeat the process periodically every 2 weeks to 1x a month.

Spiritual Communication & Meditation

Since camphor has repelling and defensive vibrations you don’t want to add camphor to this recipe. The purpose of this ritual is to open your portal of communication with spirit guides, ascended masters or any entity that resonates with you on a higher spiritual level. I like to use indigo water as a focal point during meditation as it reminds me of the ocean, the prime source where fluidity of communication is conducted.

In marketing the powers of colors are very influential to the subconscious mind.  Blue is associated with trust, honesty, wisdom, reduces fear, anxiety and is the color of the throat chakra which governs communication and self expression.

How to Use During Meditation, Spirit & Guardian Angel Communication: Simply get a bowl or cup and allow the indigo ball to dissolve.  Once dissolved, find a quiet and comfortable space where you will not be disturbed. Focus on your breathing for several minutes while focusing on the water.

Blue is calming, peaceful and evokes vibrations of harmony and clarity. During meditation visualize a blue light over your aura. Visualize all negative energy release itself from your energy field.  Focus on faith and see in your mind’s eye your greatest potential and achievements manifesting.

Aura Purification & Cleansing

This is perhaps my favorite ritual and the one I do the most often.  Indigo water opens your third eye and strengthens your consciousness and intuition.  It can be used to remove vibrations left from the evil eye or evil energy people may project onto you.  Indigo water is also very protective against psychic attacks and psychic vampires who drain your energy or any type of energy that is not conducive to self growth.

How to make an Indigo water Aura Bath:  To avoid any skin reactions, I use camphor pure essential oil as opposed to the camphor crystal cube because it a lot more user friendly too. You don’t have to add camphor, but due to its cleansing and purifying qualities it makes a great addition for this bath.

In a bowl add the indigo ball, add 3 drops of camphor oil (optional), white flowers of choice (I prefer carnations), Florida water or personal perfume of choice, and if you have holy water handy add that too.  Before you do the bath, light a white candle and meditate for a few minutes in front of your bowl visualizing the energy of the water cleansing you and creating a shield of protection.

Smudge as Incense

A camphor cube can be placed on an incense charcoal to purify your home, a great incense to clear the air of stagnant air and congested vibrations.  Check out my previous post on how to smudge with incense.

Amulets, Mojo Bags + Luck Charms

Camphor cubes have a circle indent in the middle where you can conveniently place coins to attract luck, abundance and money.  Most commonly, dimes are used, but I personally prefer pennies because they represent copper and copper is a very well known conductor of energy. But, if you prefer, you can use dimes to represent the color silver, as silver represents the moon energy and the goddess.

Indigo Balls are also very useful for matters of money and used by gamblers to increase their chances at winnings.  As mentioned, when combined, both Indigo balls and camphor can be very protective against the evil eye, negative thoughts, gossip, energy vampires and for defensive magic against those who wish to cause harm due to jealously.

How to make a Mojo bag for luck and prosperity & amp;protection: In a sachet bag add 3 indigo balls and 1 camphor cube and add virtually any type of herb or luck attracting ingredient such as sesame seeds, coins, cloves and even cinnamon sticks, get creative and do some research on money attracting herbs which can be found in your kitchen. Carry the mojo bag in your pocket, purse, or place near a register if your’re a business owner, on your desk or even hang over your door, get creative!

The same can be done to protect against the evil eye and purify your aura.  Below is a list of some of my favorite herbs for protection and banishing of negative energy others may project onto you.
